Great idea, Steve. I have benefited greatly from this site. My current stable is below in my sig. The '69 is the race car built to emulate a car that Jorg Obermoser ran in "the day". I have actually shared emails with Jorg who was blown away by the car and has sent me pictures taken in 1970.

The 72 is almost back on the road after a long time in the shop. It will be an "M2" with an S14 engine. Engine is in and fired up. The final plumbing is being completed this week.

The 73 coupe is a new acquisition. Completely original and low mileage.

Wow...all your cars look awesome man. Im jealous of the E9 coupe!

Are those alpina pig cheek style flares on your racecar? Where did you get them from and what size wheel are you running and what offset?

The flares are replicas taken from the original Alpinas. ....I can't remember where I got them but they are offered by a few places. They were about $700 plus $150 shipping.

Wheels are 13 x 7 zero offset . I run 205/60ZR-13 Hoosier R3S04's in the dry.

How did you get in touch with Jorg Obermoser? I'd like him to sign my copy of the Unbeatable BMW book.

Jorg owns a company called Toj Drom Racing Cars - do a Google search and you will find their website. He is difficult to reach, but still around.

I answered this above saying "I forgot where I got the flares". ...I just remembered that they are from Korman FWIW...

One other piece of info for "ridr4lif" who asked the question about wheels. I was using Panasport wheels originally on the race car but had a problem with the big brakes caliper rubbing on the wheel. I switched to Compomotive wheels (see: usacomp.com) and the problem was solved. They are great wheels at a decent price and easier to get than Panasports.

Cheers,

Those flares are the ones from Ireland Engineering, and they are copies of the original Vasek Polak car. Korman does sell the Alpina original copy "pig cheek" flares. If you look at the front nose closely you can see the straight nose front that adapts to the Vasek Polak style straight front spoiler.

I built the car... for the most part, although it has been modified more since then. And it was fast to begin with!

The rims in the pic were Panasport 13x7's with zero offset.

I hope the S14 swap is going well, I've always thought that was the "best alternative" go go motor for our little cars... Someday...

Seee you on the road soon!

I would agree. You can buy a used S14 engine for around $3k - $4k depending on the condition. I am also looking for a "spare" so that when/if the engine needs a rebuild, I can pop another used engine in rather than spend $10k+ rebuilding the existing engine... (yep, they are incredibly expensive to rebuild).

These swaps are now very well documented and pretty straightforward. Dave Varco at 2002parts.com has been very helpful and has all the bits necessary for these conversions as well as a thorough manual. We are estimating 200 hp plus but I doubt I will dyno this engine like I would with the race car. Ironically the street car with the S14 engine will most likely have more horsepower than the race car. I can only do so much to the race engine and stay within the Sovren vintage rules...

Pics of install right before we completed the plumbing are below.
