Hello All,

I've mostly lurked (posted less then ten times) over the last two years. Sort of like the BMWCCA which I've belonged to for over twenty years and have attended only one event. Since moving to PA though, I have attended Carlisle a few times. I love my tii, but don't have a lot of time (read work / family) to play with it.

My question today is hood insulation. As you can see from the photo, I have the shiny foam (came with the car) which is starting to become unglued. I figure I could just re-glue, though I really don't like the "oh-wow / bling" shiny non-stock "I'm trying to look cool" factor. I would like to convert it back to a "stock" appearance, though I seem to remember someone posting that the stock material tends to wear poorly. Any advice on changing it out - what to use / where to buy / how to glue would be helpful.

On a side note, I've had this tii for about 14 years. Bought it in CA and took it back home to Chicago on Route 66 (5 days). She's never broke down and left me stranded, except when I ran out of gas once. I know the car did live in CO for sometime before CA and she's rust free. I've maintained her well, replacing the clutch, throw out bearing, brakes, radiator, installing a Crane ignition, tires, shocks, exhaust, rebuilding the speedo, window regulator, and some other things I can't remember. I have flat turn signals (not installed yet), a stress bar, and new door seals laying around looking for a weekend to install. I also have a pristine non-A/C console to install (I had the shop pull the Behr A/C compressor a long time ago when they replaced the water pump). The A/C worked (lol if you can call that working) but I really think the system is so lame its better / a cleaner looking console not to have it. I've (hopefully - I did try the test forum) attached some photos for your viewing pleasure.

Cheers,

David

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

or you can go with the plain stock 3-piece foam set from the dealer.

To remove, throw a tarp or sheet over the engine compartment and have at it with a plastic scraper. Glue it with a 3M heavy duty spray adhesive, available from your auto parts store.
