As you all know the 2002 turbo has a cold air intake. Does anyone know where I can find one of these intakes for my tii? I’m looking for a little more high-end power. Also I already have a cone k&n filter tightened on to my manifold.

for example, the TEP one shown above is in a crappy position so it probably wont help, maybe a heat shield would help but best way is to have an air box with a paper(yes paper, not a k&n) panel filter and a duct from the outside of the engine bay, like the carbed cars have(did tii's have a source from the outside?). im pretty sure you dont need to have much technology in it, but maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject will tell you other wise, i think the length may actually have an effect, tuned length intake or whatever theyre called, kinda like how you want equal length headers, i dont really know.

isnt there some technology behind the cold air intake. or is it just a metal tube?

yah as Marty said, its just a metal tube. The IDEA is to let cold air from OUTSIDE the engine room into the engine itself. This air is more dense and therefore allows you to tune more fuel into the mix. This makes more POWER. its also good for the engine itself. cool intake air helps to actually cool the engine. BMWs have come with CAIs since ... god only knows when!! i know every downdraft carbureted 02 has had one originally. mine is sitting on a shelf in california, unfortunately, i still need to fabricate an adapter plate for my 38/38 ;)

I pulled the battery out of my car, and was looking and thinking about running a cold air intake and saw that there was a opening that would allow a long CAI pipe to fit into the grill section of the car. On my car there is a hole in the Front Firewall, near where the stock battery box goes. I also saw that there is an adapter for the weber 32/36 made by K&N, that bolts to the weber and has an opening (or 2) where you could run a CAI pipe. Then you can place your filter and inlet in the front grill, for a RAM air style Cold air intake. I'll probably give it a try, and post some pics, if I do.
