Thanks for all the reponses I received last week, i've gone through all the suggestions and done everything I can thing of. But it still won't start!

I've gone round and cleaned the connections, tried different earth points for the battery cable in the boot, and checked the state of the wires that run from the solenoid and starter to the alternator and block. I've also put it in gear and tried to roll it a bit in case the starter has engaged.

At the moment, I get a lot of clicking(stronger than before) from the solenoid and thats about it.

I'm beginning to think the starter may have had it. So anyone know where I can get an M3 starter, in a country they weren't imported into?

Anyone know if ane28 m5 one works?

The car and I thank you

ya if you've done all that it sounds like the starter is dead :( best find a replacement.

You can always pull it and hook it direct to a battery to test it.. just see if it spins like a mofo and if it does you'll know its still an electrical problem

A starter from any E21 4 cyl will fit, but if you want an S14 starter you will have to source E30 race builders in Aus there are a few.

Alternately try Kiwi, there are quite a few there, suggesting this as it keeps shipping cost down.

starter from an M30 (big six) engine; since it's essentially an M10 with two more cylinders, it'll bolt right in. Not the weight savings as with an S14 starter, but it is more powerful than the OEM 2002 starter. But...a good 2002 starter will have no problems with anything other than a super high compression bored and stroked motor...
