World Aphulstry... Mostly because it was a 1-piece which is the WRONG way to go... And the carpet quality sucked too....

Me, I'd buy from Al.

They have a one piece for $169 that I am curious if anyone has tried.

No its not German loop, its probably the usual low end nylon. I am curious if the fit would be close and be acceptable for a street/track car.

The 1600 and the 02 carpet sets should be the same, as in a multi-piece set, not the single sheet molded type on the later 02s.

I used a World Upholstery set years ago(this is way before Al), and the carpet fit fine, looked good, and was priced fair for what it was. I have seen Al's work, and when I can afford it, I will get a proper square loop wool carpet set for my car. The fit, finish and quality are top notch.

There are cheaper carpets out there, but you usually get what you pay for. You need to decide if you have a large enough budget and are ready for the best, or are you are just trying to piece together a daily driver and just need a full carpet set in there(like my car is right now).

Just to add to the confusion, Bimmer parts used to have a carpet set, and in addition, Al can make a set using domestic acrylic carpet that would be cheaper than his best stuff.

I think budget is the key word here. I looked at AL's site and his carpet sets do look nice. I guess all I have to do now is figure what I want (or maybe can afford) to spend.

Thanks to everyone for the input/advice!

E-mail Al, he does make lots of nylon carpet sets. He can get molded sets too, he just never likes the fit of the molded carpet kits that are around.

Ask and he will provide answers to your questions.

they sell moulded & cut and sewn for the early and late o2's made from the same nylon as larsen sells but 4 to 5 times more colors to select from and at a better price and you'll have them 3 or 4 days after ordering....

ask me how i know.....my new carpet

before the thread gets out of hand, i might suggest that you just do a little googleing for bmw 2002 carpet sets or bmw 2002 replacement carpet...you'll find several good sources that offer more colors at a better price from the same materials in both factory moulded style and the cut & sewn

based on 25 years of restoring classic and antique cars and trucks and having bought & installed perhaps as many sets as anyone here i'll say run of the mill carpeting isn't any better or worse from one source or another...the differences are, what you pay, available color selection, who you have to deal with....and the service you get

if you want to spend $600.00 + or - and don't mind waiting...buy from larsens...if you want to spend that kind of money and get it faster buy from World Upholstery ...if you want the best bang for your buck, better service & selection than either of the above provide, take a look at the link i posted & search on google

my best recommendation is...don't be swayed by personal opinion and buy whatever makes you happy

Anyone who mentions this thread, can have a nylon set for $209, shipped to their door. I will always cut someone a break on the price if they ask me nicely. Nope, we're not the fastest in the world, but that's because we're SUPER busy, and can barely keep up with orders. We must be doing something right! I do have at least 1 black nylon set in stock though.

Also, no one ever mentions this 1 important point. If your 69 has the original seats/sliders, you need a different set than the later style. Not much different, but the side pieces are different enough to make it a problem. How many generic carpet places know the difference between a 69, and a 73 2002? That's what I thought!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

for comparison here's the selection seams perfect

& his competition offer in the domestic loop....larsen's prices start at $229.00 with a lengthy wait for your order to be acknowledged then processed for shipping which will be delay'd clearing customs from canada into the US

seamsperfect.jpg

the selection one of larsen's competitors WorldUpholstery

offers in the same domestic loop is the same as seams perfect's only they offer all colors on the color chart where seams perfect does not....their domestic loop starts at $264.00 but shipped domestically from California and they're prepared to process orders immediately with fast shipping...you'll find these same World Upholstery sets sold by World Upholstery on Ebay starting at $165.00 and if you'll call and speak to them, they will sell you a set for $165.00 as advertised in Hemmings

World Upholstery's german square weave starts at $578.00 but i imagine you'd get an equal discount by asking...their import loop starts at $429.00 compared to Seams Perfect's starting price of $578.00..a substantial difference. World Upholstery also make oe style moulded carpet that seams perfect can not manufacture....

Auto Interior Carpet

Auto Interior Carpet has a fixed price of $189.00 and a color selection, that's far superior to both World Upholstery & seams perfect, available in both cut & sewn or the original factory moulded style...this clearly is the best alternative to paying more and having to wait while your number comes up. orders are filled and shipped within 2-3 days and recv'd withing a week....when i ordered by phone on tuesday, the package was delivered to me friday that same week..shipping costs - $14.00 and it comes with all the same features, including the accelerator toe pad

if you can use the cut pile style carpet found in newer cars Stock Interiors with a price of $139.95 and 25 plus colors available, with domestic shipping and fast order processing, this is a great alternative if you're on a budget....i've purchased 2 sets from this company and the sets are very nice

other sources available as well if you do a little web searching

my personal experience with World uphostery was, it was a simple web order placed, i immediately recv'd a confirmation that my order was processed...it took approx 20 days for delivery...there were no complications

my experience with larsen at seams perfect consisted of having to write and ask what was available and how long it would take...it took a week + to get an initial response in which i was offerd a single selection in the color range i wanted and advised he could not give a delivery date. it took another 2 weeks to get the single color sample and after informing seams perfect the color would not work there was no further attempt by larsen to contact me about alternatives

my transactions with Auto Interiors and Stock Interiors were the same as World Upholstery, a simple, no hassel web transaction with prompt order confirmation and speeding shipping

*the above were my personal experiences and may or may not reflect the experiences of others.
