I hope you win... I just picked it up for less than $500 with the lift included.... thanks for the input... I'll let you know when my mechanic and I go pick it up....

By the way... has anyone noticed that this car creats a bit of an addiction?... I can't seem to get enough information about it... nor do I stop combing the net for parts... I think I have a serious problem... and my 328 hardly gets any attention anymore...

Please note that the lift probably isn't really an engine lift. From the pictures, it looks like a piece of medical equipment - for lifting patients. This means that it's built to a whole different set of safety standards that are probably very conservative, but not necessarily compatible with lifting and inserting engines.

..my first thought was also MARINE MOTOR - but a boat motor would not need emission control (this one has a thermoreactor, air injection, and EGR attached)

But look at the front of the motor - no Kugelfischer injection pump

mount housing ???

is there a motor number stamped at the rear on a boss where the starter

motor mounting hole is located?

can we see more up close photos of the intake side and what does the oil pan look like ?

GOOD GREEF MAN - doesn't the sell know what is ?

That engine looks like an M10 from an early 2.0 liter bmw e21 320i ('77-'79). The intake and the water pump look e21 to me. I don't think it came from a 2002 Tii. Not sure why it has the thermal reactor exhaust manifold on it though. I would make removing that thing your first priority.

How much does the engine weigh?

The lift should be rated for at least 400 pounds.

The lift is the same that is used on a Scaletronix model 2001 patient lift/scale. It was also used on Invacare and Hoyer models. Capacity is 400 pounds according to the Scaletronix manual. The base legs with the wheels should spread out with a lever at the base to give more stability. Keep an eye on the the little pins that act as the pivots for the pump lever as they tend to shear off. If you find the hydraulic ram is not holding, check the position of the release lever at the top of the ram. May be as easy as tightening the set screw. If it is leaking and will not hold, WCMS in SantaFe Springs, CA rebuilds the rams for about $100.

There. Is there anything else you want to know about your lift?

Its definatly an early e21 motor (or some mix of parts adding up to that). The obvious lack of a tii pump should have given it away. Its missing the entire fuel system though, it would be interesting to know what they intended to use on it. Look at the injector holes, I'll bet they are the small diameter non-threaded holes for a CIS injector, not the larger threaded ones for a tii injector. You could bore them out for an efi injector and use megasquirt or something on it, that would be cool.
