A while back somebody posted a way to read plugs and assess carb tuning by installing fresh plugs right when an open stretch of road is ahead. If I remember correctly you open it up for some period and then pull over to read the plugs. Did a quick search but couldn't find the original post with the details. Anybody know this process well enough to describe for me in better detail?

Start off in 3rd gear with a fresh set of plugs and do a WOT run in 3rd only then turn it off immediately stop and check. hope this helps.

turn off the motor at full rev - dont let it idle. then pull the plugs and check the colour, Adjust timing/ fuel accordingly if too rich/lean - advanced/retarded, then take it for another run. Beaner7102

AND IT requires clean plugs,

a very long straight stretch of track, or deserted road with a slight up hill

so the motor can pull at full throttle for atleast a mile or so.

At the end of the run, switch the ignition off while holding full throttle.

Coast to a stop with the motor in neutral, remove the plugs and read the porceline nose color. The longer the 'pull' in 3rd gear combined

with a good up hill grade so you can maintain a constant 4,500 rpm pull

and full throttle, the better. A in floor chassis dyno is faster, indoors, no speeding tickets, and consistant from one test runt , adjustment , and another test run. Look at this link>>
