I need to bolt down the rear battery tray & brace on Hugo this Spring, and I have the hardware, but I have been avoiding drilling into the trunk floor, as the thought of it makes me sick!

But, I think I need to secure the tray somehow as I can hear a thumping vibration when I drive...especially with those stiff H&R springs and Sport Bilsteins! :-) The tray is moving slightly..it swivels at the brace connections at the shock towers - I have the style brace that clamps around the towers - thus no drilling needed on the towers!

It appears that the place I need to drill in the floor is directly over the rear cross member making access impossible from under the car..unless I am not looking at the right spot.

Anyway, I am looking for opinions and experiences from those that have bolted down their rear trays and how you did it...any advice appreciated.

John, The 2 ways i"ve done it are drill through the trunk floor and use 2 big s/s pop rivets, the aluminium rivets don't have real good shear strength, force a little seam sealer or silicon into the holes before the rivets, or even better you can get some 1/8" or so strap steel and make little feet that go up to rear seat bulkhead bend the ends to match the angle of the bulkhead and screw or rivet through the bulkhead this way the holes are all inside the car and dry.

Thanks Marty...I have to go through the floor as the tray isn't anywhere near the rear seat bulkhead. You can see my battery tray in the pic.

That's too bad since you went to all the trouble of getting a brace that didn't need to be drilled into the shock towers like so many others.

Was the floor drilling advertised as required?
