I asked last week about re-soldering the gas/temp gauge connections and got a few replies about adding a "Y" ground wire. I took the cluster apart today figuring I'd re-solder then if that didn't work, I'd add the "Y".

The gas gauge didn't bother me as much as the temp gauge, which would climb to the red zone and stay there. Both gauges were bouncing independently of each other, and if I flicked them, they'd both move.

Looking at the back of the gas/temp gauge, there is a "+" and a "-" to each the gas and temp gauge. Took off the connections, a little sandpapering and the gauges are completely fixed! No more bouncing. Added some fuel and the needle jumped to where it should be, and the temp did a steady climb to the middle and stayed put. Not even a pothole could make them move.

It's almost always the grounds. Hope this helps someone.I love easy fixes!
