M20 guys - E30 fuel pump question

Hi all,

I'm working on my M20 swap again. I have an E30 fuel pump in my original 02 tank. However, there is an oval-shaped piece missing from the top of the fuel pump, and I don't know what goes there. I am pretty sure I never had anything that went there. This is very bothersome because it means that my gas tank is always open, and gas fumes are exposed to all the sparks and whatnot in my garage. Basically, my car is a big molotov cocktail waiting to be lit.

Here is a pic showing the open spot:

What is supposed to go there? I'll just cut a piece of metal to go over it if it isn't important.

Thanks,

Ah, that makes sense... thanks Justin & Cris. BTW, justin, yea I remember talking to you about your swap. You had made some really good progress last I checked.

Is the E30 fuel sender compatible with the 2002's electronics?

Yeah, I think so. That is one of many things I'll have to recheck before I get there. Different tank depths and sender and/or fuel pump sump depths in the tank. I do believe it'll work with the 02 electronics, but I dont know the wires and you'll probably need the other side of the e30 plug to just splice the wires into. Its been a while, but it'll read on the 02 level gauge to the bottom of where it is in the tank but that still may be a little bit above the bottom. That's what always got me confused for what the right pumps and or senders were really right. That was kind of long just to say yeah "somehow" but there is probably more information in the archives.
