Who/what company should I use to ship my 1969 2002 from CA to VA? I've called and got 4 quotes from some auto movers. $850 being the cheapest and $1900 being the most expensive. I have checked with National Auto Transport, A-AAA Auto Transport, CarOnATruck, and NAVT.

Thoughts?

Oh, I am researching this because it is looking like I will be moving to Colorado with in the next few months. And I refuse to let my 2002 be salt, sanded, and snowed to death in Colorado. =]

Vroomer,

I have no direct experience on shipping companies but having lived

in both VA and CO, your classic (auto) body would be much happier in Colorado with a no salt policy and very low humidity.

I just contracted with America's Choice Auto Movers to ship a Porsche 912 from Monterey to SE VA for $895. They are a member of the Pitsburg Better Business Bureau and have a top rating on the auto transport reviews board. Here are some links:

Randy, thanks.

If I get the Colorado job, I would be going to the DC area (to my car) on business at quasi-regular intervals. CO has a no salt policy? weird. Hmm. I'll have to look into that, too.

I don't want my '02 to rust apart on me. She's been a CA car her whole life, too.

$895 for a Porsche ?!? Wow. That is great! I'll definately look into that. It was $2250 to ship my Z4 from Korea to Oakland. Door to Port. Then I had to pay port fees this side. BASTARDS!

Definately thanks for the link!!!!

Colorado doesn't salt their roads. The worst thing you have to worry about is kicking the snow off your shoes/boots before you get in the car because a lot of it will come off and melt to the floor. Where will you be living if you move here? There's a good number of '02ers out here.

What part of Colorado are you moving to? I’m not sure where else but, in the Denver Metro area the roads are not treated with salt or sand. A chemical called Mag Chlorite (SP?) is used and it is not nearly are corrosive as salt. I too was worried when I moved here from Arizona, but it is surprising to see the local cars not eaten up with rust.

Colorado has an active BMWCCA Chapter and there are a fair amount of 02er’s that get together from time to time. See the links provided.

I've used Dependable Auto Shippers twice to ship cars from the West coast to East coast. I'd use them again. I used a covered carrier, top berth, so it cost more than an open carrier.

Vroomer,

You can't take your 02 to the Springs. Do you know how rare it is for a BMW 2002 in CA to have an original black plates? All the times I've been to 02 fest west in SLO or to the Bay Area 02 swap & show, I've only seen a couple of them. Sell your car to an enthusiast here in CA who will take car of your black plate 02. Don't take it out of state, You know I could find you another nice 02 in CA with white plates. Once it gets to the Springs, it doesn't matter what plates it has since it will have CO plates on it then. Just my 02 cents worth.
