tii with fast idle

its been doing this for a little while, but when the car starts up, it idles fine well into being warmed up. But after driving for a while, the pedal doesn't want to move back in to its normal position, so the car will idle at around 1500 or 2000 rpm. Some times, i will actually reach down and pull the pedal back, which seems to work, but is obviously annoying( and not the safest thing either). I thought it was the carpet sliding forward, but that wasn't it.

I wasn't sure if it was the pedal, the linkage, or somewhere at the k-pump keeping things from moving....

any thoughts or suggestions...?

thanks,

Baron

It's located near the front of the plenum and hooks to the upper swivel fitting on the tii throttle linkage...it may not be returning to the normal position once the accelerator is pushed...might also just be too much "crud" on the linkage...check it all from the firewall to the Kugelfischer.

sticking gas pedal =

dirt, muck, rust, mouse meat build-up

under the rug inside the pedal box.

With a bright light- part the slits in the rug so you can see & vacuum out all the 30+ year old crud gumming up the works. When you can see the pedal piviots, start spraying with Brake Kleen to flush out all the remaining dirt, old grease, and free up the pedals and gas pedal.

go under the car and remove the pad covering the bottom of the pedal box and let all that nasty stuff drain out of the box. And while under there,(protect yer EYES !!) feel the gas pedal for free movement where it exits the box and runs up to the injection system. There should be a return spring at the outside of the pedal box assisting the pedal shaft to return.

after it is all clean , free moving, and dry- lubricate all these piviots with a heavy oil of spray lub like WURTH2000. NOT Spray on White Lith grease. That stuff only coats the surface and does nothing but create a new mess. No penetration into tight fiting shafts, bearings surfaces.

disconnect the vertical rod from the bell crank at the firewall, then feel for friction in the now disconnected sections. Work from there.

One thing that happened to me once is that the cup-shaped liner that accepts the rod from the throttle body in the top of the K-pump went missing after some work. That caused a reluctance to return to idle speed.

seems relatively straightforward...just a little elbow grease!
