I have just removed the headliner from my 02...I removed everything in one piece apart from the fiber board panel at the back!...This snapped into 2 pieces...To remove it I used pliers and squashed the clips...

My question is..."what did i do wrong????", and is this easy to purchase??

The headliner is in great condition, but I will probably buy a new one as the material has aged at the edges which would make installation a nightmare..

i don't know what you did wrong but you may want to hang on to it...i believe those are NLA and hard to find...you can, if you have to, fiberglass it back together or make some creative splint to hold it rigid

my guess... it broke simply because it's old and brittle

Yeah, that sucks, but it happens all the time. The panel is in fact NLA, although I had little trouble finding a replacement for the 73 that I'm restoring right now. Found one in the classifieds here for $15.

If you can't find one, Esty does have the right idea of putting it back together. Only fear with that is that if you don't get the edge smooth, you WILL see it in the headliner once it's tight.

And yes, installing an old liner will be a nightmare. New one is the only way to fly.
