I started doing the rear disc conversion on my 74 tii in july, and got hung up on which master cylinder to use. I ordered an e28 MC, but it only had two ports on it. I've been searching the archives hard and have found people suggesting these options:

750iL, year?

E12 528i

E28 528i

Alfa Romeo, year? model?

They also suggest removing a valve on the bottom of the stock tii MC.

I borrowed this pic from a fellow faq members site:

Is the metalic piece on the bottom this valve? If so how do I remove it?

I also found this e12 MC on ebay:

Will this work properly with the rear disc? This is the only one I've found that has the same number of ports as the tii mc.

Someone please educate me. I'm currently living in Japan, while my car is in Tacoma, WA. I can't just go out and look/mess around with it. It's been sitting in the garage, brakeless, since I left. I really want to get it back on the road while I'm on leave this summer and am trying to prepare right now.

I'm interested in this too. I was thinking of using an early 1600 (single line calipers) master cylinder, but I'm concerned about the volume of fluid needed by my willwoods in the front and the disks in the rear. I would like to keep the remote reservoir because it looks right.

The E12 528i m/c is a five-port unit that bolts up to the 2002 just fine. It will work properly with rear discs, as this is what the E12 528i had (no check valve). Also, it's cheaper than the tii unit last time I checked.

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up buying that e12 MC off ebay. We'll see how it goes this summer. Hopefully I can post some good pics of the whole conversion.
