I bought a carb rebuild kit from La Jolla for my single barrel solex.

Does anyone have any printed instructions on how I should go about doing this? I've never tackled a carb rebuild project before....

thanks,

Brian

take pictures or make sketches as you dismantle.

Solex 1 bbls are very easy to take apart/clean/overhaul; the only even slightly tricky part is to disconnect the lever that runs from the choke bellcrank (where the choke cable attaches to the carb) up to the choke plate itself that's part of the carb top (cover). Just make a sketch to show where the cotter pin, spring and washers go so you can get 'em back correctly, and make sure the choke plate is fully closed when the choke cable is pulled out all the way, and vice versa.

The other thing to check carefully (esp on a high mileage car) is the fit of the throttle spindle (shaft) in its housing down at the very bottom of the carb. If it's really sloppy you'll get a vacuum leak and poor/fluctuating idle. Two ways to fix: send to a carb place (they advertise in Hemmings) and have the shaft bushed, or find a parts carb with a good tight spindle. Note that the piece that holds the throttle plate and its spindle are a separate part from the main carb body. They may be available new from Europe...at least they were once available as a spare part...

Good luck--carbs are easy once you've done one.

Thank you VERY much!

I need all the help I can get....I'll take digital pics throughout the whole process...I am just worried that it will end up one of those projects where there are spare parts still left AFTER I've finished!

Cheers,
