Hi,

I got a pair of e12 brake calipers for the big brake upgrade, but can't install them until a later date. Should I do anything to protect them while in storage?

As of now, I was thinking about just wrapping them up in plastic to avoid getting foreign particles down the high pressure lines. Do I have to worry about any of the piston seals drying out?

TIA.

The seals should have been coated with brake fluid or rubber grease (I prefer rubber grease) before the pistons were installed. I've never tried to install the pistons dry, but given how tough they can be lubricated I'd guess it's near impossible to do dry. With that said, if they're coated they'll be fine. Just keep the junk out of the inlet ports.

Thanks FP2002.

On another subject, big brake upgrade. When I removed the E12 brake calipers. I noticed that they are mounted on the headlight side of the disc (drivers side is mounted at 9 o'clock). On a 2002, they are mounted at the firewall side of the disc (driver side is mounted at 3 o'clock).

When I reinstall the E12 calipers on my struts, do I swap the E12 right caliper and put it on the left side. Put the E12 left caliper on the right side.

The end result would be to have the bleed nipples on the top so that the air can be bled out. The FAQ doesn't mention anything about this difference.

Thanks again.

I'm not familiar with the swap, but it should make no difference whether the caliper is in front of or behind the strut so long as the bleeders are up and the lines can be safely routed.
