I was talking to steve about the idea of making up a new forum on the site, namely a PROJECTS forum. Basically, what this would be is, everyone who is doing a major restoration, engine swap, fuel injection conversion, etc., whatever, etc., could start a thread on the topic (aka project). Kind of like a project blog. Kind of like my "one year later" thread on jenna's website.

One of the most powerful features of the new board software, imo, is one of its simplest: the "bump" feature that brings the most-recently posted-to thread to the top. This also opens up new opportunities for creating "persisting" threads, such as long-term project threads, that can be updated as needed and could last however long the project lasts.

Because this is an "experimental" idea, id like people to post these Project Threads in the "TEST" forum. Feel free to start your own "Feature" threads on your own projects/cars. I say "FEATURE" because its something i wanted to do for the site for a long time: put up a "Features" section that would, uh, feature certain cars that have undergone a lot of work (s14/m20 cars etc) that other people would want to read about. Just like a magazine article on the car, but with technical details there for those who want to follow in the footsteps.

Questions and answers within each thread should be welcomed. It will create some long threads, but they can always be cleaned up later upon request. I personally dont think it will be an issue as this board is about *the* most self-disciplined board ive ever come across.

Individual questions could be asked/answered in seperate postings to the general forum. If it takes off as an idea, then it can possibly graduate to its own "Projects" (or whatever you want to call it) forum. If its a stupid idea and falls apart by lack of interest or whatever, well hell, its just the Test forum... :P Recall that the test forum previously spawned the reality of the Off Topic forum, which has been an unqualified success in terms of keeping OT bs off the main forum page... (IMO! :))

I dont have any "projects" going on right now except the jetta transmission transplant that ive got going (and until its finished will eliminate the possibility of any 02 projects). Otherwise id start an example thread to get things going. You all will again have to self-police on this idea, which has worked well in the past.

So what qualifies as a "project" in terms of being worth a long-term thread? im thinking engine swaps, restoration/paint projects, etc., like ive said before. does changing your brakes qualify as a project?? Id say yes, if thats just the first thing on your list, and youre going to post pics of your car so we can follow your progress as you get other things done.. :) But what i would really like to see is the idea of the aforementioned FEATURE section, where we see big projects get done through all the hickups and obstacles and triumphs and lesser completions. All those details and found shortcuts will be invaluable for those who indeed follow in your footprints!! :) Plus, if you are going to post a bunch of pictures of your car, this would be a good way to do it. Start out with pics, then go through each little project you go through through your ownership... (you all know how that goes!!)

Go to the Test Forum, and start a project thread about your car. And we will see if its worth creating a seperate forum for the idea at a later time. The threads will be easy to move if necessary with the new board software!! :)

None of you know me. I'm a die hard car guy. I've owned lots of BMW's for years. From 2002's to late M3's. The last several years I've been hanging with the 914 crowd.

This forum would be mutch better if you used the recycle feature where a response brings the post back to the top.

I'm way to busy to chase an interesting post back 3 or 4 pages to see the latest info.

I frequent the 914club.com BBS. They now have a Blog Feature that allows you to post a running project thread with as many photos as you want to post.

They also use the recycle feature.

Heres a link to my project thread on the 914 BBS.http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=7725&hl=

and an other thing... the link feature sux

You can change this in your profile. Mine is set to "bumping on"

Welcome! Nice 914!

Hey, steve k or someone, could my previous posts be moved to start a project thread? I think Rob's idea is good. It's interesting to follow other peoples' projects and it would be easier if it was all in one thread. I think commenting in the project thread's should be minimal and questions could be discussed in different threads. That would keep it in reasonable length.

These posts would be start of Goodfellas project (if I was able to copy correct links).

As many of you know I work at LaValle's Import and Restorations and have seen a lot of our work with Andy's, Scott and others cars. Well they say competition brings out the best in companies, people and nations. Well this project is no different, thanks to Andy S letting me take his original Turbo to Vintage at the Vineyards (yes Scott will be hosting it again this year so look for updates), and I knew what I wanted.

The project car is a 1970 BMW 2002 with a blown engine. The car has a bad paint job and excellent interior. This particular car has been sitting for a very long time so there is just over 120k on the chassis. Thanks to Jake B. I found a 320i BAE Turbo car on eBay, best 200 bucks I have spent yet. While the engine donor car has a bad turbo all the other fun stuff is there. At the time of this writing the engine has yet to be fully checked out. The car also has a five speed, gauges, and ventilated brakes. Yet to be determined is the rear diff of the turbo car.

I look forward to sharing my adventure with my 2002 with you

previous threads in one single (new) project thread. What id suggest is starting yet another NEW thread and putting those links at the beginning so that people can see what youve already gotten done, and then just add on to there... AMAZINGLY COOL work man!! :)

And Sam, you need to start a NEW thread for your turbo project car!! not just reply to this one!! ;)
