With the talk of alternator upgrades and people wiring in stereos and lights and such, I was wondering if anybody has figured out what the different electrical loads are on our cars.

Basically something that says how much draw there is with all the running/license plate/instrument cluster lights on (= X.X amps), turning on the low beams (= X.X amps), high beams (=X.X amps), heater fan (=X.X amps), etc...

Then figure out a worst case scenario- Driving with the wipers, heater fan, and the headlights all on high, then hitting the horn for a second or two.

I know from my experience that a mild sized stereo, driving lights, 100 watt H-4s, all the running lights, and the heater fan on low was enough to bring my old 02 charging system to its' knees long ago.

How much of a cushion exists with the stock charging system on a stock car? How many bobbles is it safe to add?

I've done this in the past, just figuring out what each item draws. Has anybody else taken this further?

I was thinking about using a dual battery setup with a crossover, running the accessories, lights, etc, off it and the rest of the car off the other. I'll probably mount it under the rear seat with a battery relocator, using battery trays out of a R-bike, with screws. I'm also thinking about updating the alternator at the time, but am not sure what is best. I've seen a thread about a high power GM upgrade, which could run an electric cooling fan, etc.
