...= SAME original off the factory line height.

big bumper USA cars had ride height spacers installed at the top of the front struts to conform to bumper and headlight height requirements.

most by now have had (I hope!) these spacers removed for 'improved' handling , lower roll center. So you will find in these 30 +/- year old cars

a variable ride height depending on springs, spacers, condition, mileage,

abuse, botch work, mods.

USA cars...and 73-on cars rode (on stock springs) about an inch higher than 72 and earlier cars--ride height was tweaked (longer springs) to meet Federal bumper height requirements that went into effect for the '73 model year.

higher than Hugo with stock springs eh? I thought it seemed to sit a bit high up front compared to my '76 too "sans" spacers. :-)

both have stock springs with spacers removed. '72 and earlier cars will sit almost an inch lower...I wondered for years why my '69 sat lower than my 73, regardless of wheel/tire combination (presuming 185/70x13 tires on 13" rims). Bumper height requirements starting in 1973 is the answer.

So, you can lower your '73-on car an inch by simply fitting pre-73 springs...

Mike:

I think it may just be the fact that my '76 has "fat" tires and 14X6.5 BBS wheels, and my '73tii has skinny close to stock tires with early factory alloys. It's just a cosmetic thing I think....

Thanks,

John
