i've had a friend over the last 3 nights helping my hubby take the thermal reactor off my 76...all bolts are out except the bottom 2 closet to the back firewall....

try as they may, those 2 bolts won't budge...one's rounded and the other is about to go round

tips @ techniques...anyone...everyone

i have everything...it was working the last time i had to smog it in lA but that was 8 years ago.....the car's been park'd inside since then, driven just enough to keep it lubed...

if i can round up all the pieces, you're welcome to them...or anyone else that might....i don't need them

another cast iron exhaust manifold, take a spare stud and nut to mock up where they sit in relation to the manifold when installed. You'll discover that by removing a small amount of metal (use a grinder) from the manifold casting in the vicinity of where the nut sits, you'll be able to get either a box end wrench or a socket onto those nuts.

It won't help you this time, but it sure will the next. I just went thru this myself--those lower nuts are a PITA.

Just got a rusty bolt remover set from sears. They have a few different sets. They have a reverse screw type of locking mechanism that grabs the bolt when you unscrew it. I haven't tried it, but I got a rounded bolt on a olds 442 455 exhaust manifold. Good Luck

I was there for the Al Canuck rost off ICE manifold incident on the other end of the Rachet. Being a Dane of Keebler Elf proportions rost off ice made the job possible.

It truly is the best penetration oil ever invented.
