Steering wheel play - is 2 inches either way too much?

can i adjust it out or do i need a new box?

It can be adjusted, unless its really worn out.

There is a screw on the box with a nut around it, you will need to screw that in. Don't make it too tight though, or the box will wear quickly.

check the center track rod, tie rod ends, control arm, and lower ball joints in that order. since 89 I have owned abou 10 02 and since I started diver 4 or 5 VW and the streeing box never went out in any of them, all the old BMW I havw ownd have need a new center track rod, good luck

never dealt with steering stuff, and so yeah, pictures would be a help :)

my wheel has 2 inches or more of play (when sitting still mostly) at the moment, but the steering is very nice still

how do i go about getting rid of the play?
