Spinal Tap speedo accuracy explained!!

It has finally come to me that the 02 speedo does "indeed" have a 5mph error built into it. It's like the guy in Spinal Tap explaining how they're amps go to 11. The engineers at BMW simply started the speedo face at 5mph rather than zero. The needle comes to rest there at standstill. This allowed them to include the 120 at the high end and results in the optimistic readings that seem to be the norm.

if you think thats bad, the new electronic speedo BMWs that people pay superbucks for have an 11% (or somethign like that) discrepancy built in... which affects the odometer too! that means, your warrantee will run out faster than it should, and you get stuck with repair bills that the factory/dealer should pay for between the time the odo says "no more" and when in reality you should be paying for your own repairs!

FWIW,
