1) Basement: glass, bumpers, wheels/tires, hoods, doors, trunks, fenders.

2) Spare Bedroom: door panels, dashes, seats, all interior bits.

3) Bodies, engines, drivetrains, trannies, anything greasy.

4) Cardboard boxes for all the little tid-bits as they come off a car, then cleaned and stored with other same parts,....i.e. all the steering gears go in one box and then placed in the basement.

Actually, its just one big pile....but I know where everything is.

Under my Gorilla Rack workbench, I have 8 of those flip-top containers from Home Depot. Parts are sorted by 2002 or E30 or other(E46, etc...), and then by new/to be installed parts, or good used parts.

Everything is in plastic bags with some sort of label if possible. On the front of each bin I have a pick list of what's inside. This really helps prevent duplicate purchases.

I've also got sveral small bins in my wall cabinets for all the medium use stuff like relays, switches, etc...

For lightbulbs and fuses, I have 2 more small parts boxes. These help keep track of what I'm getting low on for spares.

...since SO many (well, Dan K-types anyways) bitch up one side and down the other when "they" find themselves "wanting" something that I "know" I have...but cannot put my hand on in 5 minutes...I am gonna read this thread carefully, perhaps it IS possible to self-evolve from packrat to "organized hobbiest"
