e21 alternator wiring questions (3 parts)

First, in reading Trent's article on swapping the alternator he says that "the thick red wire goes back on the 320i alternator". My stock alt has two thick red wires attached, one to the starter and one disappearing into the wiring harness. Which do I reconnect?

Second, I believe that of the 3 relays and the voltage regulator on the front of drive side, the regulator is the largest and most forward. Is this correct?

Finally, my current alt is grounded to the block. Is this suggested for the e21 alt as well?

Many TIA,

Chris

1. The thick red wire from your wiring harness goes to the B+ terminal on the alternator. The 2nd red wire (to your starter) is not stock; I wonder if you need it.

2. Yes -- the largest, forwardmost box is the regulator.

3. Yes -- there should be a fat wire from the alternator case to the block no matter which alternator you use.
