door latch 'locker plate'? whaaat?

I need a new door latch 'catch' (item #7, see the link), so I was looking up the part #..and I see this 'locker plate' (#8) that sits between the latch and the doorframe.

Does anyone have a real picture of this? Never seen one before..I guess the PO's took them off all the cars I have seen. I would think it would make the latch stick out a bit more. Maybe help with my latch issues.

Threaded to hold the striker plate in place?

#8 is placed in the backside of the B pillar. Its what the latch(7) screws thread into.

and forces yo to pull the rear side panel to fish it back out.
