I have a '68 1600 and wanted to return it to its

original color. How would I find out what the color

options were in 1968? The previous owner

stripped it down to the metal.

Chances are, you'll find the original color on the inside of the door behind the panels, or underneath the rear window deck piece. The color should be very close to being original too, since it wouldn't be weathered or sun bleached.

1. Pull the dash. That is almost sure to not have been stripped. BUt you never know.

2. Write to BMW, and get the original description of the car. THis is very good.

3. Start guessing. I have an availibility chart for 2002 colors, so it's a start.

All you have to do is email Kai Jacobsen at [email protected] and supply a VIN number and inquire as to the original paint color. I did this on mine, just to make sure. Here's the email correspondance I had....

Dear Daniel,

the original colour of your 4/1973 2002 was Atlantik, which is a dark

blue, paint code 041.

Yours sincerely
