Which carb set up would work best?

I have a 1976 modified engine, it presently has a

32/36 Weber carb. After some research in the

archives, I am thinking a 38/38 or a dual

sidedraught setup. I am not racing the car, it's a

street car / my toy.

I think the 32/36 would be the best on gas, but I

might get better overall performance from another

setup. I don't know what scenario to follow and

would welcome some feedback. If you

recommend anything other than a 32/36, what

should I go with as Weber's are not available at

present?

The engine has been bored to 40 over; has been

ported and polished; flywheel has been lightened;

292 Schrick Cam; JE forged pistons; bav autosport

headers, ansa free flow exhaust and muffler. The

engine had some other mods done that escapes

me right now. It was done by a professional race

shop, lead mechanic was knowledgeable of 02's.

I think compression was 10.1 or 10.5. He stated if

I went any higher I would have to mix gas.

Thanks in advance.

As a minimum a 40/40. It is very strange that they ONLY fitted with a 32/36, did they ran out of money???. Not to be skeptical, but it may be worth opening the valve cover and verify cam.

the engine later. I have not fired it up yet. I actually

learned how to tell the difference in Carbs from

folks on this board.

The carb is not connected to the engine; I looked at

it again before posting earlier hoping that it was at

least a 38/38 - not!

Exactly what set up would you recommend? How

would a conversion go on a 76 engine

(desmogging)? I would need to change the

manifold and plug lines? Help???

Thanks in advance.

I would first check the google search in the main menu, find out who has a similar set up engine wise, and find out about the intake from them. I would definetely go side drafts, but that is only one opinion. There are a lot of people on the board running side drafts. I would repost with sidedrafts on the title post. If you live in California there are smog issues to think about.
