alternator questions...

Is my alternator ok? Engine running about 2000 RPMs. At the pos terminal on the alternator, I get 13.6V. At the battery, positive terminal, I get 13.4V.

What do you guys think?

Thanks.

do that for free--you can have 13.6 volts but only 10-12 amps vs the correct 35 or 45. That's what happened to mine--volts OK, just no amps. A rebuild took care of that (we have a very good rebuild shop locally $70 and it's like new)

Cheers

Mike

Turn on all the accessories - lights (high beams), heater fan, rear window defogger (if it works), wipers on high. Crank up the sound system. Let it run like that for 10 minutes. Now check your voltage. If you still have 13.6 you are in fine shape. If not, your alternator isn't keeping up.

With all accessories on, the voltage drops to 12.8V. Is this voltage within limits of a stock alternator?

If not, what should the voltage be with all accessories on?

Thanks,
