Purchase the car and bring it in to the u.s. and be legal that is??

OK. I did everything except buy the car and bring it down..... It just didn't work out for me (car-wise, not import related)

Long story but I went through all the stuff to make sure I had the story straight.

There's two things that need to be addressed. Safety equipment (NHSTA) and the smog rules (EPA).

I even visited the Customs office at the border on my way up to see the car.

Please verify that I have not forgotten anything. It's been over a year now since I did any of my homework and I may have forgotten something.

Your car is exempt from epa and dot standards since it is over 25 years old. What you will probably have to pay is duty. Since the car is made in Germany you will have to pay duty for that country based on the book value of your vehicle. Anymore questions drop me a line.
