windshield polish kits -- any good?

I'm getting a LOT of glare from on coming lights when driving at night. My windshield is pitted and generally 30+ years old :)

The plan is to replace it when I go to paint, but that won't be for a while.

Got any recommendations on windshield polish kits? Do they actually make a difference ?

cheers

it requires a lot of elbow grease. I Rubbed out the windshield on my '69 Chevy C10 and it helped a lot...but I was blown away at the difference when I finally replaced the glass.

i'll have to ask my mechanic buddy what kind of kit to get I think. There are a bunch with different disks & polish goop etc to fit various polishers -- gotta find out what will fit what tools he has

I can't even remember where I got it from though..but there wasn't much of a difference. Maybe I didn't use it right.

Regardless, when I painted my car I put in a new windshield (aftermarket), and HOLY CRAP, it was probably one of the best 'improvements' I have made. Night and day difference. Only problem is that now my rear glass is that much more noticable... :(

ive seen polished windshields that make you look like the fat dude at the freak show. i would imagine power or air tools would allow you to do this easier

i bought a kit from Eastwood for a falcon sprint i won....it's extremely difficult to polish glass and a very small area took me 1/2 a day....i finally decided to live with things the way they are

there's a risk of the glass breaking too due to the extreme pressure and heat required to remove the bad spot

hmm. that sucks. The window i've got is fine for normal driving -- its just at night with on coming headlights -- its getting near dangerous. You can feel pitting all over the thing that refracts on coming light. I'm hoping just to smooth those out a little bit, not make the thing like new. I dono.. maybe i'll call around some body shops and see what they think. I don't want to swap the window out till i go to paint.

thanks
