So yesterday I took the '02 to the bank which is about 2.5 miles away on my way down the oil pressure light came on and when I got to the bank nearly all of the engine oil had leaked out and sprayed all across the engine compartment. I had the car towed home and then looked around but can not tell where the leak originated. As the photos show its coming out through the grill as well as under the hood on the left side. Thanks in advance for any insights.

Yeah, lots of oil around the oil filter. Pressure wash everything and then you will have a better idea of what is dripping oil.

When was last time you changed oil and oil filter?

What brand oil filter did you use?

Can you tell us where oil filter was made?

Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like your dipstick has pushed out…

Maybe overfilled oil, pressurised crankcase, or you hadn’t the pushed the dipstick back in after checking.

+1 on the oil filter, did you rev the engine when it was still cold? Pretty much the first place to look with that much of a leak.

Greetings, Sorry for the delay I posted this and then promptly went to church. The last oil change was in September but the car is driven sparingly. I will check to see if that could be the issue and report back.

Take a look, Austria.   The gasket looks like it pushed out in one place.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

Ummm... Did you have an oil temp sensor or something installed on the oil filter housing, cuz something is missing.  That's the source of your oil monsoon.

Bergie33 is on to something. In my modified housing that is exactly the end of a passage on the housing under full pressure. If the sensor blew out( is there something hanging on a wire somewhere) it would be full pressure seconds to lose it all. Photo for reference

That's a late oil filter head used on 75 and 76 models, if I remember right there should be a small freeze plug in there, can't remember why they did that though.

Sorry again for the delay. Its Sunday and I had a ton of honey-dos. I did get the filter off and the O-ring has an imperfection so I will put a new one one for good measure. I did see the the port you circled, but do not know what was there before.
