1. what is the size of the bolt that goes on the back end of the

alternator bracket. i looked online at the parts database and it is not

listed.

2. how tight should the timing chain be? i have a mechanical tensioner

and it is adjusted pretty tight. jeff ireland told me to tighten it good

and then back it out half a turn. not very scientific, any other

"measurements"?

When the motor is at functional temperature, I stop it.

I then remove the cam cover as I want to look at the front sprocket. I turn the crank with a 30mm socket just a bit in one direction, and a bit in the other. While you turn the crank in both directions, the sprocket should follow tightly. If it does not, that is because there is some slack in the timing chain. Tighten the tensionner and retest. It has been working for me this way for years. You do not want to overtighten the chain and strectch it either.
