Are 15x7 wheels w/ 40 offset possible? Want to run flares as

...40mm offset will run farther inboard (i.e. closer to the strut) than a standard 02 wheel (about 29mm offset).

To fill the flares, you'll want wheels with a SMALLER offset, like et13, 12, 10, or even 6.

Bear in mind that e21 320i wheels have an offset of 18mm, and they stick out farther than stock wheels on an 02 (that is, they run closer to the fender lip). I think the best wheels for this flared applications are the 12mm offset Alpinas made for e21s. You can find them (or copies thereof) in 15 x 6" and 15 x 7".

For a 40mm offset wheel, you'd need around a 1" thick (25mm) spacer to fill the flares. In my opinion, that is not safe as 2002s do not rely on hub centering.

If you want to fill the flares you need less offset and spacers. I run 15x7 wheels with zero offset, 8 mm spacers in the front and 20mm spacers in the back. With 10 inch wide slicks, they easily fit inside the flares.
