Special thanks to LaJolla Independent BMW Service!

Recommended Posts

After finally settling back in here in Upstate NY after my daughters wedding 2 weeks ago in San Diego, I would like to give a special shout out to Carl, and especially JP from LaJolla Independent BMW Service for the use of their BMW 1600 convertible in her wedding.  It made a truly beautiful day even more special!  JP brought the 1600 to the venue from the shop and even added a thoughtful gift of champagne on ice, and cigars!  They have taken great care of my daughter and her e70 since she has been in San Diego and this was just above and beyond!  The guys at LaJolla Independent BMW Service are THE BEST! Here are just a few pictures of their special day!

IIRC that's the same convertible used in a Katy Perry music video...and I had the pleasure of driving it from LA down to La Jolla in 2004...with an interesting little story about the outside mirror glass escaping from its housing...

Pictures look like a scene from "An Officer and a Gentleman."  Congrats!

And yeah, Carl and his company have been a wonderful source of parts and assistance to the 2002 community for 30+ years...

Back in the 90s when Carl and I were talking 2002s, I described all the rust repairs I was facing on my bought-new 69; he said, "junk it and find a better one."  Glad I didn't take his advice...

San Diego is a great place to fly Navy planes and drive 2002's over The Coronado Bridge and hang out at The Del and swim at NASNI's Breakers Beach and enjoy dinners at Chez Loma and cocktails at The I-Bar !!

San Diego is also a great place to live. At least it was for me in the 80's and 90's. I would love to be able to retire and move back there one day but I'm afraid that ship has sailed considering what things cost these days. Would love to be able to drive the 02 up highway 79 through Cuyamaca Rancho State park to Julian and back. I really miss San Diego.

We had a great time there.  Have traveled over the bridge to the ibar and other establishments many times (can't remember the names of all the places because I suffer from CRS!)  Daughter and her new husband have been there almost 2 years and love it!  But I agree it is very expensive.   And Mike, I could just wander around Carl's shop for days just looking at all of the different parts, cars, and all other kinds of different stuff that is there!  He helped me a great deal with the headliner in the 1600!  They are the best!

Weather was phenomenal!  Mid 70's and clear skies all day and clear into the evening.  I think I like the weather in San Diego best of all! (Certainly better than upstate NY!)

One of my projects for the last 10 years has been the renovation of the Hotel Del, and I've yet to drive the 02 over the bridge...It's on the list!

That is indeed the Darlington House!  It was absolutely beautiful!  Everything went as planned, and was very smooth!  A perfect day!
