I'm trying to install the petronix....I got it setup, put the red wire to the resister, there is another wire to go to the coil, and hooked up the neg to the coil...When I started it up the first time I accidently had the red petronix cable on the coil, and there was a loud pop and a large puff of smoke...So I put the red wire on the resister, now the car won't start, it just makes popping noises like someone is hitting a cardboard box outside the veh....Did I fry something??? What am I doing wrong?

When you put the dizzy back in, you should make sure that at #1TDC (compression) the rotor is pointing roughly to the mark on the dizzy housing.

Sounds like you may not have this right?

What year car?

I went back and checked that, and it is right on... It still makes these popping noises, and seems to just about almost startup... No more smoke... I wondered if the distributer is preasureized? THe wires from the petronix move freely in and out of the rubber grommet... Any other suggestions?

I don't have a similar setup, and the pertronix instructions aren't handy so I can't add too much. It could be that your coil requires the ballast resistor, which would make sense. I've switched to a coil without a resistor.

Did you try the pertronix directly to the coil, instead of through that block? I really need to see the pertronix instructions to get a good feeling for how you have that hooked up. I'll see if I can find them later on at home.
