@K_02RS there are reproductions available that are basically identical to the original and they are not very expensive. The og ones come up for sale on eBay and Porsche forums as well from time to time.

Would you mind linking me to the correct reproduction?

I don’t recall who sells them, I think they are available from a few places. You just need to make sure they are threaded like the original. That’s what’s cool about these and probably part of the reason why Alpina and Schnitzer used them is that they were a direct fit with M15 x 1.5 which is the same for our 2002’s

Neat Alpina price listing - whole cars plus some special parts. No 1600, sry… but it’s older, all version w/Webers, still Boge struts.

I hadn’t seen KF - T 22 before.

Steering this conversation back to wheels, one interesting thing I noticed in some earlier Alpina ads was the appearance of a wood Nardi wheel that is what I would consider “pre-branded” Alpina wheel as I think they used it prior to commissioning Momo and other brands for Alpina branded steering wheels.

I don’t have the steering wheel yet, (it’s just an early flat Nardi, not really rare or unique), but I did manage to score what I believe is the correct early BMW hub and horn button as seen in the early NK Alpina ads. The hub/hb were very hard to find, best $35 score on eBay though! Sometimes you get lucky!

I dig the mis-matched grilles on this Alpina from the ‘68 Nurburgring race driven by Huber/Koob...

So you guys liked KF - N 36 earlier when she was pretty, but not when she’s a bit messy? 🙂

John, I know you’re the wheel buff, but the one steering wheel I couldn’t place as Nardi/Momo et al was this early Alpina wheel Tom posted up front:

It looks like it might have been branded Alpina?

Your wheel hub is from this?

Mine is just an inexpensive Personal 390 that someone engraved.

And just to confirm, I made no mention of Alpina in relation to that wannabe illegitPersonal in my  post intentionally.

Love that Nardi NK horn button posted by JP!

Thx Tom. I didn’t say you said it was Alpina, just that you posted the pic. I assumed it was... That’s it’s a fake answers my Q. It’s spoke proportions look off..

Yes, awesome find by JP. Isn’t that button also fitted on the fake wheel in the second pic I posted?

@visionaut the wheel in the black and white photo is 39cm, leather and made by personal. It was not ever branded by Alpina AFAIK, but I have seen it and similar wheels used by Schnitzer, so anything is possible. I have seen some of the wood wheels made by Personal marked Alpina, enough so that I think they were one of their offerings. As everyone can probably surmise at this point, being definitive about anything from those early days is a crap shoot at best sometimes. It’s a mix of a searching ads, price lists, period photos, etc. and even then can a be a bit of a judgment call.

There is a big difference in the horn buttons if you look closely. The button in the black and white picture of the leather wheel is a standard Nardi horn button. Very common and I think maybe still available today.

Pretty sure my early wooden Alpina steering wheel was made by Personal. It came off an NK sedan with an Alpina Gossens tach and the first performance kit with dual Webers.
