my example car isn't with me at this time

1st why is there and extra ground coming from the headlight cluster? 3 inches long and seems to go nowhere?

side lights- i notice that my right rear side lights have wires but the one on the right has two wires and a single but the left side just has two singles .

thanks in advance

the extra wire on one side is the hot feed to the other sidelight. At least some of the later roundies (72 and 73 for sure, not positive about 71's and don't know about US squarelights) have a parking light feature that allows you to turn on the left front and rear lamps (parking and tail) by using the turn signal lever with the ignition off. This is required for on-street parking in many European countries. If the sidelights were wired into the tail lights, they'd light up too, so they're wired on a separate circuit that doesn't go thru the turn signal lever.

Can't help on the extra headlight ground without a car to look at, but it may be related to the small lamps inside the Euro headlights (they're called "town lights" and are used in built-up areas with street lights instead of headlights)

'02 trivia for today...

Cheers

Mike

Model year? Extra ground on left side? Right? Both? In addition to the 'extra' ground, is there a brown wire from each headlight to the body? Please explain "two wires and a single"; is that two wires or three? What colors?

k, both headlights have a 3 inch loong brown wire on my 72 02 and 67 1600 FROM the headlight (3 piece insert)piece, that just dangles, my 73 didn't seem to have it as i remember.

the rear side markers were different. wide chrome to there rear? if i placed them right(didn't have my 73 to look at in the shop at the moment, 67 dosn't have side markers) i think the below post explains the left rear(?)turn signal parking lights being on, and in that case i put them on backwards.

PS what does that plastic piece on the front turn signal wire (rectangluar wiht two nobs on one side) do

i think my 73 ghad holes it was supposed to fit into to hold the wire????

TIA
