Spongy Brakes

I think I need to bleed by brakes...When I hold the brakes down the

pedal fades almost to the point of failure. I have to pump them to

bring them back, until they fade again. Is this a symptom of an air

bubble in the line, or a bigger problem with the master cylinder. I'll

bleed them when I get home.

I had a similar spongyness. Turns out MC was bad, leaking fluid into the booster. Pretty common failure with symptoms you describe. Even though the level drops sloooowly, so much so you may say you're not loosing any fluid...

To check, hold down brake pedal and listen under the hood as it sinks to the floor, or nearly to the floor, you may hear it 'gurgling'.

Good luck, and don't forget to bleed the clutch slave.

If they are too loose, it can also result in a spongy pedal.

You should bleed your brakes anyway, doesn't cost any more than a bottle of brake fluid and a beer for whoever you convince to press the pedal for you.
