Anyone here using the E30 M3 oil filter housing? (m)

Do you know if the internal parts (spring and thermostat)are available so the unit can be rebuilt? I suspect my thermostat is not functioning as it should.

internal parts (spring and thermostat). I discovered that it was not working correctly last summer so I visited several dealers and got the same story. They only have a kit to replace the washer, plug and spring. Real BUMMER! I ended up making a piece so that it is always open.

thermostat crapped out it was time to replace the entire $300.00 unit even though the thermostat is easily replacable. Go figure.

Parts should STILL be available from the dealers or any parts house.

As I recall about 10-15 dollars for the kit, but that was a few years ago.

Easy to do. MUCH easier if the housing is not on the engine at the time.
