Is it only I who thinks that Barret-Jackson is Red- Neck Centric. How about most of Speedvision and all those car and bike garage shows. Hot Rodding 240Zs with a 4 barrel Holly carb and running 1/4 miles. Since when did 240 tuners use Holly 4 barrels. The car was built for road racing, and sidedrafts where the weapon of choice. How about BMW bikes. It's all Harley this and Harley that. Tattoo this and Tattoo that. I'm afaraid we're surrounded by Rednecks (Rednecks with money or Rednecks with Tattoos, or Rednecks with Harleys or just plain Rednecks) Vintage BMW bikes look really cool while incorporating practical and advanced design features. How about a BMW bike show.

On the extereme you have all those Elitist Poo Poo's with British accents (Nothing against Brits, but nobody is going to convince me that an MG or Healey motor is great, much less their electrical system. Have you guys seen that show, where that PUMI (Prisoner of Mother England)gets super jittery and excited "Now the car really talks to me". Britania no longer rules the waves nor the road. Nor do the Rednecks in their Nascars. Those things are so ugly. Just a space frame with a V8 and cheap dangling plastic body panels taped over the space frames. You can almost peel it all away. Lets drive around in circles all day, Yahooo! At least in the old days they had no pretentions. Just a bunch of good old boys running moonshine in hopped-up cars on backroads and taking an occasional roll in the haystack with that seemingly innocent Gal next door without the silicone boobs and tattoos. Now, I can relate to that. They were certainly more interesting.

What happened to car shows for us middle of the road folks with practical machines like the 02 and slightly less practical machines like the Alfas. I'll take an Alfa over a Healey any day. And the 02 would make a better booze runner than either of them. It has independent suspesion and much more space, not to mention a more reliable motor.

It's irritating to know tha the next time I tune to a TV car show there will be some obese fast food nourished redneck with tattoos telling us how to trick out a Harley or a more refined redneck in a black Polo shirt showing us how he restores a Nova or builds some other oversized and heavy inefficient pile of SH..... "Mopar Mopar Mopar OOOHHHH Mopar"

Enough for now,

Slavs

I can see where you are coming from but DeCadenet knows his stuff and how many other shows have an ex-road racer talking about the stuff that he drove. What about Victory by Design, that show is absolutely amazing. My friends step-dad met him and he was a super nice guy and drooling over all the vintage bikes he had at his booth Top Gear is another good one. They really exercise those cars. I like all the euro sports car stuff and the accent just makes it so much different than rednecks turning left for a couple hours. I'm missing SPEED since we dont get it at school. Hey at least be thankful youre getting it.

But I thought it was cool to have tat's all over and ride a big bike or big car with big chrome wheels?? I must be missing something. Good observation Slav's that's why I dont watch t.v... see enough of this garbage in everyday life. We used to get 13 channels with good stuff now its like 300+ and it's allmost all fluff, what a waste of time and money, they can have it.

as I agree in principle with mostly what you said - you have a valid point... here comes the however part: there is a big audience for those shows and not all harley riders are red necks, some of them drive BMW's! Hotrods, bikes and that sort of stuff is what in a way characterizes the US, doesn't make it bad. Eventually everything reaches equilibrium. I see a trend where BMW is reaching out with x3's and x'5 and SUV owners are trading theirs for 3 and 5 series! These in a sense are the golden years of automobile ownership, there is so much to choose from and gas still relatively cheap!

Still agree with you, driving in circles is stupid, but I thought watching golf was stupid too, what do I know?

NASCAR, tattoos and piercings for everyone, obscenity jumping from the airwaves to "polite" conversation, McDonalds for dinner and Wal-Mart for everything else. Of course, you can pick any point in time and readily find people who will wail about how things have deteriorated since back then, but I defy you to find a worse decade for crassness and abandonment of standards.

What makes the most money gets shown, a show about really cool cars and interesting subjects would not be what the majority of t.v. viewers would watch. "attenuata on 02's" would not last one season. Now if we were lifting H2's and dropping Escalades it would be the new hit on speed. Baaaaaahhhhhhhh!

I'm in to it all...from F1, To D1, From Nascar, to Supercross,

From Rally, to Targa, Dakar, Nopi...New School, Old School

and everything in between. I love the new drivers

championship that is arena based, and racing is driver

oriented...where drivers are thier own busines and make

money in all events. As for Nascar, Have you ever driven on

I75 and are looking for the fastest lane of traffic and you see

a bottle neck up ahead and get behind the guy in the next

lane so he can pull you through, all the while inces away

doing between 75-90MPH....Nascar to me is a reflection of

highway driving...pitstops, high milage....you tell me how to

get good time on the road....limit stops...

I roll my BMWs down main street every bike week, which by

the way starts March 4th....My first bike, the Boxer BMW 1976

R100s, and then last year my resurected BMW Vetter K100

w/ cycle sound radio...last year I was bumpin...

I think it is funny, bike week, it is like a dude fashion show,

but it is fun and the garage choppers, technically would blow

you mind. But it is kind of like who can be the biggest scum

bag, though. I'll wear my baggies and tank top w/ nutin on

my arms but couplea' scars, made by fate herself...

Rock and Roll, I love it all, and if heaven aint alot like dixie...I

don't want to go....

and when you talk about overweight cars, compare a Cuda to a new 330, pretty close, although theres a lot more stuff packed into a 330
