Here is a before pic of the factory transmission tunnel:

Here is the "after" pic of the custom tunnel I made: Removable and bigger, 20-ga steel, ribbed, shrunk, stretched, beaten and wheeled into this shape:

Transmission rear pickup will be mounted on a removable X-brace connecting the framerails.

The gaspedal still fits fine, about as tight to the tunnel as my e28, a little tighter than the 02. I will probably modify the brake and gas to move them to the left just a little.

From the top:

Not done yet, but its getting there, damn customer's cars and wife keep monopolizing all my time.

Very nice! I am fabricating a new transmission mount for my M2, as I need to lower my tranny slightly. How are you going to make the x-brace tranny mount for your car?

Clutch jobs were pretty easy....take out seats, take off tunnel, remove tranny from top. But when you were done, it was still a Triumph. I traded that car on my first 2002, in 1978.

Thanks for the compliment! The brace will be made from 1" DOM tubing most likely and will form an X that intersects under the transmission mount. I am going to have to weld nuts and plates into the framerails to secure it.

The x-brace sounds much stouter than what I was planning, and might even stiffen up the chassis. Please post some pics when you do it, as I could use some inspiration, and am not averse to welding tabs to the frame rails to mount the bracket.
