The plot thickens.

I just heard back from the machine shop about my bottom end, and I

think I'm going to cry. I purchased it used with a new oil pump hoping

it would need a minimum amount of work to be ready to go.

Apparently the top is warped and needs to be decked and the cylinders

need to be honed badly. Trouble is they're oval and according to the

shop the only thing to do is ditch the pistons and bore the sucker out

round.

Of course this is after I've purchased a fresh 121 head to match

said oval pistons.

I just want my car back. This is a world of pain, and it's not fun at all.

I think I'm now going to sell everything I have that's M10 related and

call up Jaime...

The cylinders can be sleeved for less money than buying new pistons (assuming your pistons are not worn/collapsed). There is a sleeve available for a Chevy V6 that works well on the M10 block. Ask your machine shop for an estimate.. The sleeves themselves are really cheap.

that's in your car. I have the red 70 in the shop now, the owner wanted out of her house NOW! I am taking the bumpers in payment for the towing! That sounds like a fair deal, right??? It has an engine but no head and another complete engine is sitting in the shop.

I had my 1.6 sleaved back to factory stock after I couldn't clean it up it had been bored out too far. The shop did it no problem. The engine just turned over 101k miles and runs great. The head guy at the shop said sleaving strengthens the block making it more rigid. I would try it if your pistons are OK!
