Ticking noise coming from cylinder head

Just noticed yesterday that I have a ticking noise coming from the vicinity of the cylinder head. It only happens when I rev the engine and is not based on movement down the road. It sort of sounds like bikes do when kids used to put playing cards on the wheels and it would hit the spokes. Before I pull the valve cover off, any ideas what might be going on? Car seems to run fine, just has that annoying noise.

sounds kind of far fetched but my '74 2002 was making a similar noise, found out it was one of the alternator mounting bushings ( If I pulled the alternator back a tad, the clicking noise went away, but of course would start up again after releasing the alternator ) and I had bought new bushings a few months prior to selling it so the new bushings cured it., just a thought for you,
