This giant bracket and 3 belt crank pulley look to me like there used to be AC on this car. Does that seem right?  IMG_8949.thumb.jpeg.896fb71f64c4dde7159a268113ebada2.jpegWhen I bought it, there was no center console. I’m planning an engine rebuild. Any problem with putting on  a single belt pulley (if I can find one) and delete the big bracket?

Well, the ENGINE had an aircon compressor on it.

Are there 2 holes in the firewall that don't have hoses going through them?

That would be the giveaway for the chassis...

Nope, no problem at all in getting rid of the bracket and the pulley.

There are several sizes of pulley, though, so your belt selection may

take a few tries.

Smog pump. Later models had a belt driven smog pump mounted on the driver side front of engine.

Is that a 75 or 76 squarelight (or the engine from one?).  It is indeed an air pump bracket, but it looks quite different from the one used on 68-72 (121ti head) cars.  That one incorporates the dipstick holder, an aluminum casting that's bolted to the block, and fits much more closely to the oil filter housing--close enough to make removing the filter a PITA.

Yes, it is!

Ask me how I know.... The air pump is the first thing the smog inspectors look for on a '76 in CA. 👮‍♂️☹️

‘75 bought new in Berkeley California and sold to me by the first owner. Actually her somewhat sketchy grandson…

there was a lot he didn’t know or didn’t tell me.
Can I just yank that thing off? I think the alternator slider bar is attached to it

Yes.

The air pump adjuster arm is bolted to the cam chain cover.

With the bracket removed, you might need two shorter bolts for the front 2.

John

PS: It's been a long time since the "good old days" of smog delete.
