and check it out on the bench. May as well take them both off and put a kit in it.

Don't be afraid to break hydrualic connections.....you need to replace the fluid at least annually anyway.

did you try pushing it back in with a C-clamp?

put an old brake pad in there and them press the

pistons back in with a clamp.

I have been experiencing one of my front brakes sticking on.On inspection I found the same problem.I couldn't force one of my pistons back without resorting to unreasonable force.Tried all the release fluid/cleaning techniques but to no avail.I have decided on a replacement caliper.Sorry.

Wedge all three pistons that move OK with old brake pads, chunks of steel etc; then have (hopefully) lovely assistant slowly press brake pedal until the stuck piston moves. Don't let it pop out or you'll have a mess.

Once it moves, you should be able to push it back in place. If it's still stiff, work it back and forth awhile. I've had good luck with this technique--and to keep the piston freed up, I carefully cleaned around the piston's dust boot and pried it loose (with the piston extended). I then took some silcone grease (it's made for this purpose--won't damage rubber parts)and dabbed it on the piston sides. That'll help lubricate it.

However...it'll probably start sticking again in a year or so...then it's replacement/rebuilt/rebuild your caliper time.

Cheers

Mike

i'll give the clamping idea a good try. i hoping that the piston is just wedged in there and can be freed by force.

thanks guys.

If it's still hooked up to the lines and won't go back could be hoses...

If it were me, I would replace both calipers, pads, and hoses, don't go cheap when dealing with brakes. From the lessons learned dept.

34-11-1-103-289 for 2002, about $55

34-11-1-158-692 for 2002tii, about $40

A kit covers one caliper - 4 piston seals, 4 dust seals, 4 dust seal clips.

Given these prices, check out the cost of a rebuilt caliper before deciding.
