Price: $425
Location: Enumclaw, Washinton

Description:

Up for sale is a cast aluminum reproduction Alpina style 2002 differential cover which weights 9 pounds.  This came to me as part of a 2002 parts clean out project several years ago. I now wish to move it along to a good home.  In the spirit of full transparency and disclosure, there is no maker mark found anywhere on the casting so unsure of origin.

It appears that with the sold carrier mounts, this cover may have been made perhaps, for a racing application.  A competent machine shop could however, drill/enlarge the carrier mount holes to accommodate poly bushings.  There is one fill/drain hole.  Unlike other Alpina covers, there is no provision for an air vent.

In the past, well respected FAQ vendors have listed these units in the $900 range.  I believe $425 (includes PayPal fees) is a fair number for this differential cover.

I only ship to USA locations using USPS Ground Advantage and Priority Mail exclusively. Exact shipping cost is additional.

Hi Alberto,

Yes...no oil drain hole was found.

It appears that the side fill hole would also act as the drain hole using a simple liquid suction devise.

Hope this helps.

No cap/plug

I did however, just measure the fill/drain hole diameter which is 15 mm.  Good sized, but still smaller diameter than a standard 2002 diff. fill or drain plug.

I would think that you could perhaps, source the differential drain cap/plug from an online fasteners vendor.

The threads appear to be "finer than coarser".

You guys are killing me. Have any of you drained and filled the differential in a 114 (our cars)? the fill is in the rear cover, as this one does, the drain is part of the cast iron diff body, on the bottom.

Furry Camel,

Thanks for chiming in.  Yes, you are correct. In retrospect, the drain plug "is" on the differential body towards the rear.  The plug is removed with a 10 mm allen wrench and a little muscle.  Just having a senior moment here...lol.
