OT: Carplay-compatible radios for daily driver

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to replace the radio in my wife's 2012 Honda Civic with a more contemporary radio (aka, "digital multimedia receiver") that works with an iPhone's Carplay.

The features it should have are:

  • double-DIN mounting in the dash
  • capacitive touchscreen
  • wired connection to phone  (wireless connection not really necessary)
  • compatibility with Apple Carplay
  • support for an add-on backup camera (to be installed later)
  • an old-fashioned volume knob would be nice

I'm looking to spend $500 - 800 (this is only a Civic, after all).  The offerings online seem to split into a higher price point tier in the $600-$1200 range (Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony) and a lower tier in the $250 - 400 of no-names.

Does anyone have any experience with these units and can recommend or diss any particular models?
