Dread2002
Hey all! Currently waiting on my subframe to be coated and "while I'm in there" I decided to clean up my oil pan and put a new gasket on. I find myself questioning the painting process, did a quick search on the forum and I couldn't find an answer. Do I need primer on the oil pan? Or can I just hit it with VHT header paint? Also, are their any general rules for painting any of you want to throw out there? Thanks!
bergie33
I would use primer as it will adhere better. High temp (header) paint isn't necessary. Regular engine enamel will work just fine. 1

Read and follow the instructions on the can? several light, overlapping coats are better than just globbing one heavy wet coat on. Shake, shake, shake and then shake some more. at least thats what the can will say Edited September 3, 2022 by tech71
jgerock
“Waiting on my subframe to be coated”… add the oil pan to your list to be powder coated. Of course, only have the outside coated.
