Fortlauderdalian
Does the bolt that tightens the distributor need to be completely removed before taking the distributor out. I’ve been trying to slowly ease back into working on my cars but I’m still struggling with my hands and while trying to pull it out it would twist easily but not lift. It’s been almost a year since removing one from my other car.
zinz
Should not have to remove the clamping bolt completely. Pull harder Ed Z
Son of Marty
Yup loosen the bolt until you can see slack around the clamp, the o ring friction is what is holding it you can try dripping a bit of oil down from the top see if that helps.

Son of Marty
Keep at it, most of us aren't teens anymore so it's use it or loose it. I'm pulling for ya.
2002iii
I find it helps if you twist the distributor back and forth a little while pulling.

Fortlauderdalian
I recruited and initiated a new generation of 02 shade tree mechanics. My oldest is the mechanical director of his engineering and robotics team at his high school. I had to wait till he was done studying for his SAT or my wife would kill me. We went out this afternoon and installed a Themis alternator bracket, the alternator with fresh poly bushings then removed the distributor.

It kept me out of a lot of trouble when I was young, and when I was older it saved me a ton of money doing it myself.

Fortlauderdalian
I found some local help with the rebuilding of the distributor and had a chance to see some rare old BMW’s he’s helped restore. Hopefully the 1600 will be up and running for the next cars and coffee
