Considering the condition in the photos, the mileage could be correct.

The underhood insulation is intact, the seats have no rips/tears with intact horse hair padding, seatbelt stickers aren’t faded, original unworn shift knob, etc. Even the rear roundel is the original type and isn’t faded. The rear window gasket and lock strip are in great condition as well. Exhaust does exit from the center but I can’t see where the cutout is on the rear valance. If it truly is a ‘74 the rear muffler has been replaced at some point.

Granted, any of those things could’ve been replaced, but to have all of them in basically the same condition is unusual.

I agree: could be 25K miles. Or I suppose it could also be 125K miles, in the hands of a careful owner… My ‘76, after 100K miles, retained its original interior — no cracks, no tears — despite the crap materials BMW was using by ‘76 (photo below). And I was not always a careful owner… ?

But my question is: What sort of a son doesn’t know whether his father put 25K or 125K miles on a car that he bought new in 1974? Where the hell has that kid been all these years? ?

Best regards,

Steve
